Design & Remodel Goals:
  • Create a gorgeous, showplace kitchen with function equal to its form.
  • Swap the existing kitchen and nook areas to allow for a new island and new nook area.
  • Create cohesiveness with the family room area so as to allow greater flexibility for entertaining at large family gatherings. The existing nook space was too small and secluded from the family room area.
  • Design for a more expansive feel to the kitchen and adjoining nook & family room areas.
How Goals Were Accomplished:
  • The kitchen & nook swapped positions to allow for the large family gatherings, since the nook and family room now became neighbors.
  • A new island was created with a radius base at the island overhang areas to allow for the immediate family to interact easily while dining.
  • A prep sink was placed in the island to allow for a secondary food preparation area.
  • Black granite slab countertops with full tile backsplashes & a black tile border above the gas range top accent the exclusive feel of the European-look cherry cabinets with raised panel doors.
  • The cabinet accouterments include fluted columns at island and the range top, as well as full-height columns at the nook to family room opening. The columns at the nook to family room opening provide continuity between the spaces and join the rooms together.
  • A highly functional, sparkling combination of island pendants, recessed can lighting, & undercounter hockey puck lights reflect a fine quality that only can fully be appreciated at night, after the sun goes down.
  • One of the kitchen walls comprises a message center area, hutch wall cabinets with glass doors, glass shelves & low-voltage lighting, and an oven / microwave / pantry area. This wall blends great form with extreme functionality.
  • Strikingly rich hardwood floors were installed in the kitchen, nook & the family room areas to ease the discomfort of the hard, cold tile floors that comprised the former kitchen & nook areas. The family room had carpet originally, extending the hardwood to all of these areas makes for a seamless connection to a truly “great room” space.
