Design & Remodel Goals:
- Remove existing kitchen, and design & build a functional, yet striking showplace kitchen for a culinary credentialed chef who loves to cook and entertain.
- Design for a commercial style range as the focal point of the new kitchen.
- Design for a nook seating area whereby the chef could interact with guests, while not having them “in the way” while cooking.
- Utilize angles to create a space that was not just an ordinary rectangular or boxy space.
- Design for access to a bedroom that was being utilized as a study.
- Design for a lot of storage with easy access.
How Goals Were Accomplished:
- The new kitchen walls were designed on 45-degree angles, as was the entire orientation of the new kitchen to create a distinctive kitchen.
- A single-level island was designed to allow for optimum space utilization. The island became home to the kitchen sink, dishwasher, undercounter wine refrigerator & various storage cabinets.
- Every inch of cabinet space was utilized, since the cabinets were custom made. This allowed for tremendous flexibility and functionality with respect to pre-manufactured lines that can sometimes be limited.
- Even the areas behind the angled kitchen walls were fully utilized in the form of closets.
- A spacious angled pantry cabinet was framed in behind the island to further increase the storage capacity of the kitchen.
- Open-shelf wall cabinets served to break up the expanse of the long run of wall cabinets, while still providing excellent storage for cookbooks, china & the owner’s TV that is always on when he cooks.
- Island pendants highlight the extremely functional island. Hockey puck accent lighting was installed below all wall cabinet areas. Recessed can lights assimilate with the other lighting to create a very balanced kitchen lighting scheme.
- Richly elegant granite slab countertops and stone tile full splash with decorative dots complete the perfect picture.
- Hardwood floors were installed and lightly stained so as to contrast with and complement the rich stained, maple cabinetry with conversion varnish finish and toner.
- Walls were painted blood red providing a bold contrast and design flair.
