Owner Design & Remodel Goals:
- Owner was happy with the basic layout & did not want to encroach into the adjacent family room or nook spaces
- Owner desired to increase the functionality of a relatively small kitchen
- Owner liked angles
- Owner wanted rich, elegant cabinetry, countertops & flooring
- Owner desired better lighting, since the kitchen was not located on an exterior wall & they wanted too get rid of the hideous surface mounted light box
- Owner wanted to complement their existing artwork (south western Indian motif) & color scheme
How Goals Were Accomplished:
- New design created a wider opening between the refrigerator & the tip of the peninsula to facilitate increased access
- Base cabinet roll-outs, a corner lazy susan, & a full-depth, slotted tray storage wall cabinet over the refrigerator increased functionality & storage
- New design created a more angular end to the end of the peninsula & maintained angled base & wall cabinets & a 45-degree open shelf
- Rich and elegant, natural cherry cabinetry with conversion varnish finish with shaker style doors were installed
- The luxurious granite slab countertops enhance and complement the other fine appointments
- New engineered hardwood floors were installed in the kitchen to provide a more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing surface to work on
- Recessed can lights, low-voltage undercabinet hockey puck lights, and pendant lighting (above the peninsula) provide wonderful illumination for the kitchen
- 4” high backsplashes were utilized to allow for a healthy dose of a vibrant yellow paint at backsplash areas that served to give some “pop” to the kitchen, complement the nook furnishings & finshes, & provide great contrast with the red tones inherent in much of their artwork and décor
