Major
Design Goals:
- Remodel & update a custom home with a tired kitchen & a confining layout
between the island & the kitchen sink area
- Generally liked the lighter feel of the white wash cabinets & floor
treatment
- Existing hardwood floor was pulling loose from prior sand & finishes
- Generally liked the layout of the existing kitchen areas
- Improve lighting & eliminate fluorescent ceiling light box over the
island in the kitchen
How Goals Were Accomplished:
- Original discussions centered around refinishing the existing cabinets &
flooring – this proved not to be feasible due to condition of floors &
cabinets
- New maple cabinets were selected to maintain open feeling, & quality
- New rift cut, white oak, hardwood flooring was selected to allow for a
more contemporary, consistent, quality feel
- A more functional layout was created with improved clearances around the
re-configured island
- Radius countertop overhangs were mimicked at the kitchen peninsula &
island overhang to increase visibility while eating or drinking
- Lighting improvements occurred everywhere in the kitchen & nook with
pendants highlighting the island & wet bar
- Stainless steel appliances add to the quality feel
- At the nook to family room, maple stair railings, balusters, newel posts
& new hardwood treads & risers create an elegant update
- Granite slab counters & tile backsplashes complete the update
